			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>&#8230;.we are witnessing the rapid proliferation of technologies which are less about &#8216;narrowcasting&#8217; to individuals, than the creation of communities and resources in which individuals come together to learn, collaborate and build knowledge (social software).<em><a href="http://www.futurelab.org.uk/download/pdfs/research/opening_education/Social_Software_report.pdf">Social software and learning, Futurelab 2006</a></em></p>
<p>The <em>Social software and learning</em>, report from Futurelab<em> </em>provides an important paper for discussion and debate around the issues of the changing view of education and the skills young people need to develop in the global knowledge economy. </p>
<p><a href="http://www.futurelab.org.uk">Futurelab</a>, a not-for-profit UK organisation, works in partnership with industry, policy and practice to:</p>
<ul>
<li><em>incubate new ideas, taking them from the lab to the classroom</em></li>
<li><em>provide evidence and practical advice to support the design and use of innovative learning tools</em></li>
<li><em>communicate latest thinking and practice in educational ICT</em></li>
<li><em>provide the space for experimentation and exchange of ideas between the creative, technology and education sectors.</em></li>
</ul>

Annika Small, CEO of Futurelab will be one of the speakers along with Phillip Adams, broadcaster, writer and film maker and James Farmer, Melbourne based online communications designer and Online Community Editor at The Age.</p>

<p>The next seminar for 2006, hosted by <strong><em>education.au,</em></strong>will focus on furthering the debate around building a new vision for education in Australia. Key issues to be addressed include:</p>

<p>The speakers for the day will include:</p>
<p><a href="http://www.abc.net.au/services/podcasting/network_RadioNational.htm"><strong>Phillip Adams</strong></a> &#8211; a controversial broadcaster, writer and film-maker. As presenter of ABC Late Night Live, he has interviewed thousands and can boast to be ABC Radio National’s largest driver of demand for podcast downloads (50,000 downloads for May 2006).</p>
<p><a href="http://www.incsub.org/"><strong>James Farmer</strong></a> &#8211; a Melbourne based online communications designer. James is the founder of <a href="http://www.edublogs.org/"><strong>edublogs.org</strong></a>,the largest educational blogging community on the web. James has worked as a lecturer in research and education design at Deakin University and is currently the Online Community Editor at The Age.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.nesta.org.uk/mediaroom/newsreleases/3635/index.html"><strong>Annika Small</strong></a>- CEO of Futurelab UK, responsible for developing the strategic direction, establishing partnerships and exploring new opportunities for Futurelab. Annika has focused on developing compelling interactive learning resources for those excluded from traditional education.</p>
<p><a href="http://mikeseyfang.com/"><strong>Mike Seyfang</strong></a>- a consultant with over 25 years experience in ICT. Mike’s achievements include the envisioning and conception of the Microsoft and South Australian Government Innovation Centre.</p>
